Update

I just wanted to give an update as to what I am currently working on. I have decided to build my portfolio on Action Sports. Most of the photographs I have taken recently I do not have permission to post them on the internet, which is why I have not posted in so long. The most recent images definitely portray what I am currently working towards. Some great news is that I purchased a new camera, so my images will be of much much better quality and I am much more confident in my work now. Soon to come will be images of a Swim Meet between CSU and Utah.

Horizon vs. Rocky Mountain Football

These photographs were taken at a High School Football game between Horizon High School and Rocky Mountain High School and a beautiful Fall Saturday Morning. Rocky Mountain got off to a very early lead, but the Horizon Hawks prevailed in the end.

Denver University Volleyball

These photographs were taken at the Denver University Volleyball game vs. Gonzaga on September 11th, 2010. The Pioneers defeated Gonzaga three games to one in the Pioneer Classic hosted by Denver University.

Rapids VS Houston

These are a couple of my shots from the Rapids game the other night. It was kind of disheartening, they were a lot more strict on where I could be on the field... They wouldn't let me walk behind the goal or the benches, so I was stuck on the opposite end of the field as to where all the action took place, but I still got a few worthy shots.

Inline Skating Championships

These few photos were taken in Colorado Springs at the Inline Skating Championships held by Team USA. This was such an interesting experience, I had no idea there was competitive inline skating. These people are like machines! I have never seen such gigantic leg muscles on people. It was an awesome experience, and I wish I could have been down there for more of the competition. Hope you enjoy!

Toy Car

This was taken for my Editorial Class for our first assignment. We had to take a picture of something in a very objective way (neutral, not very interesting), then a picture of the same thing in a very subjective way (adding my own personal twist to the lighting, location, background, angle etc.) This is my subjective shot.

Night for Day

This shot was actually taken during the mid-afternoon. The point was to use different colored gels to change the colors of the photograph to make it look like it was taken during the evening. The concept I was going for here was "Schoo's out!"

Beverage

Our final for my studio class was to shoot a beverage. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to do either a smoothie or a milkshake, and decided upon strawberry-banana milkshake. Had a slight setback when I went to clean my class and dropped it right before my shoot, luckily I found this one in a random cabinet in the studio! I like the way the shot turned out in the end, and it was very very tasty to eat while we were shooting :)

Where's Wendy!!!

Here is my Where's Wendy! I am not totally satisfied with the image yet, there are still a few things I would like to add to it to improve the shot a little bit, so when I have some free time to work on it and get it totally the way I want it, I will post again. I have posted the before and the after of the image to show everything that I have added. Hope you all enjoy!

Digital Zone

This was taken for an assignment in my Advanced Principles class. I would explain the assignment but to any non-photography savvy people it would sound like gibberish, so here it is! Hope you all like it. I especially like the highlights on the chrome, and the fact that the bike is orange :)

Where's Waldo?

For my Digital Image Illustration II class our final project is a composite of at least 15 different images put together to make one. It took me quite a while to finally come up with a good concept for this, but I landed upon Where's Waldo. I am using a panoramic scene of a local park. I am also photographing other people at the park and compositing them into my scene. And yes, there will be a waldo! I am super excited for this project and it is coming along nicely! I am going to be doing some more shooting for it tomorrow but I wanted to let you all know what my big project I am working on right now is, and hopefully get you as excited about it as I am! I will post original "Where's Waldo" scenes on my blog with my updates to keep you all entertained until my finished product :)

Copy a Painting

For my studio class my second assignment was to find a painting and copy it EXACTLY. I chose to do a painting of Raspberries, thinking it would be relatively easy... little did I know. Copying the painting exactly also meant placing the Raspberries the same way they were placed in the painting. This took me and my amazing partner, Emily, who I owe great thanks to, about two hours! (She was very frustrated with me by the end because I am such a perfectionist. I quote "Christina, you were moving the Raspberries like not even a centimeter!") But after all that time I still think they could have been placed a little bit better, I am happy with the shot though. I had to do some color editing in photoshop due to the saturation of the painting. The larger image is my photograph. Hope you all enjoy!

Psychology of Color

For my first assignment in my Studio class we had to evoke an emotion through the psychology of color. I think everybody when they were a child remembers the yellow light that creeped into their room from the crack left open in the door. This is what I chose to recreate with my old nightstand, sock monkey, and I always had a glass of water next to me. The blue cast is to simulate the dark of the night, while the yellow light simulates the crack in the door.

Diptych Selectively Toned

For my final project in my printing class we had to produce a Diptych, which is two photographs presented next to each other that are connected in some way. I also had to selectively tone the two photographs. I chose to convert the photos to black and white, and keep the nail polish, and the lining and the bow on the shoes in color. I posed for these photographs myself to show a part of me. This is my favorite pair of shoes because they are so different and so fun.

This portrait is of Natasha Hahn, also a student at the Art Institute of Colorado. Music is a huge part of Natasha's life as she portrays through her guitar and her iPod.

Infrared

In my printing class we had to choose a special effect capture with film and create it on digital photographs in photoshop. In high school I did a project with Infrared film and fell in love with it so I decided to convert some photos over to infrared. Infrared is a light spectrum that is not visible to the human eye. I generally turns blues to black, makes liquid a very gray color, is very grainy, and has glowing highlights. My favorite part is how grainy the photo becomes.

Cell Phone

This photo was taken with my cell phone. I was driving home one day and noticed black smoke in the air and decided to try to find it. Police cars were racing past me so I followed them to find the Goodwill Trailor in the King Sooper's parking lot located at 120th and Colorado Blvd. on fire.

Mountain Sunset Panoramics

The top photo is called a Gestalt Panoramic, it was a total of five frames. The bottom photo is a Stitched Panoramic and was a total of 8 frames.

Toning

This was an assignment for my printing class. We had to take one photograph and tone it different ways (Color, Black and White, Sepia, Split Tone, and Duo Tone). The images appear in reverse order of what they were listed as. I personally like the Split Toned image the most.

Shiny

I took this photograph to fulfill an assignment to shoot something shiny in my Advanced Lighting class at AiC. This is a miniature copper model of and old-fashioned fire truck.

Texture

This picture was taken of a plant (I apologize, I do not know the name of the plant) with a light placed below and just in front of the hanging plant. The purpose of the dramatic lighting was to express the beautiful texture of the plant.

Roads of Colorado

This was a part of my final project in my first quarter at AiC in Fall of 2009. The goal of the series was to show all the different atmospheres of Colorado with a road in all of the photos to tie them all together.
